Biography

John Baricevic received his undergraduate degree from St. Benedicts College in Atchison, Kansas, a Masters degree from Kansas State Teachers College and completed his law degree at Southern Illinois University – Carbondale.

Mr. Baricevic served as Assistant State’s Attorney in St. Clair County from 1978-1980 and was elected St. Clair County State’s Attorney from 1980-1990. In 1990, he was elected St. Clair County Board Chairman, an office he held until 2004 when he was elected Circuit Judge. He served as Chief Judge from 2006-2016 and served on numerous committees including Probation Services and the Illinois Supreme Courts Committee on Opiate Addiction.

Throughout his career Mr. Baricevic has served as President of the Illinois States Attorneys Association, Vice President of the National District Attorneys Association and as a member of the Illinois Senate select committee on County Funding. He also served as Chairman of East-West Gateway and the Metro Counties Council. As a member he served Civic Progress, Leadership Council Southwestern Illinois, St. Louis Regional Chamber and Growth Association, United Way, Belleville Chamber of Commerce, the Committee to Retain and Enhance Scott AFB and led the building of light rail in St. Clair County. He has also served as President of the St. Clair County and East St. Louis Bar Associations and is a member of the Illinois State Bar.
